UOIT Master of Health Sciences program receives approval

UOIT's Master of Health Sciences program has received approval from the Ontario Council on Graduate Studies. The program, scheduled to begin in September, contains fields in Health Informatics and Community Health.

Expression of resistance-nodulation-cell-division efflux pumps in commonly used Burkholderia pseudomallei strains and clinical isolates from northern Australia

Dr. Ayush Kumar recently (Dec 2008) published this paper in the journal, ‘Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene’ . This study, done in a collaboration with Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, CO, USA and Menzies school of medicine, Darwin, NT, Australia, analyzed 50 different clinical isolates of Burkholderia pseudomallei, a select agent and a potential bioweapon, for the expression of seven different multidrug resistance pumps. Results of this study suggest a physiological role for these pumps in this bacterium.
